Jefferson Alumni Boosters
Daly City, California

Our Purpose

ESTABLISHED IN 1979

We the Alumni Boosters of Jefferson High School in Daly City, California do establish this organization to perpetuate pride in being a Jefferson Indian by promoting participation, honoring excellence, providing scholarships, and supporting extra-curricular activities.

We will work to insure that students who wish to participate in extra-curricular activities will be provided with the means to do so whenever possible.

We will provide activities which will assist in bringing old friends together again beginning with our first graduates of 1925 to the present.

We will work to locate and display the history of Jefferson High School.

We will honor Jefferson graduates who have made outstanding contributions in their fields of endeavor.

We will create an Athletic Hall of Fame to record the achievements of Jefferson’s fine athletes during their years at Jefferson.

We will honor teachers and other staff members to show our appreciation for their dedicated years of service.

IN THE BEGINNING…

The true beginning of the Jefferson Alumni Boosters began with the great football season of a great team and a very special coach in 1978.   The football fans, parents, students and alumni, were hooked and they came back for more in 1979.

But, the ’79 season was marred by a teacher strike with the new coach on the picket line. A Terra Nova grad and UPS driver anxious to coach a high school football team got his chance.

The 1979 team became the first varsity football champions in Jefferson’s history.

Carolyn Huertas, a parent of one of the players, talked me into cooking a victory dinner for the Coach Lou Sanchez and the team...
AND everybody else on earth who we could get to come help them celebrate.
Marian Mann of the Mission Merchants presented a plaque to the coaches and THE TEAM.

Alumni, students and community leaders filled the cafeteria to honor the team.

We found other happy fans who were willing to give us a hand. During the planning period, all but two of us realized that we had something in common. We were all Jefferson grads who were parents of Jefferson students.

We had talked about being Boosters, but a group had just folded after their kids had graduated.

THEN THE IDEA WAS BORN

JEFFERSON ALUMNI BOOSTERS WOULD BE FOREVER!

On November 28, 1979, in the City Hall of Daly City, the first meeting was held of the Jefferson Alumni Boosters.

Councilman, Al Teglia, Class of 1950
J.H.S.D. Superintendent Dr. Floyd Gonella, Class of 1952
Chamber of Commerce President, Pete Markovich, Class of 1928
Principal Elizabeth Hall
Vice Principal Walt Gloistein
Irene Maloney Scally,  Class of ‘42
Joe Zanobini,  Class of ‘50
Sidney Warren Rasmussen, Class of '54
Sharon Warren Caruso, Class of ‘62
Michele Backlund Barnblatt, Class of ‘70
Mark Zanobini, Class of '78
Sally Rasmussen Leogrande, Class of '81 (to be)
and
Carolyn Huertas, Dolores Heggum--the boosters.

Former Councilman and proprietor of Serramonte Stationers, the late
Frank Paccelli, insured our success with a first donation of $1000.
With such generous encouragement, we were on our way.

Our first venture was to honor the 1979 championship team.
Over 200 grads, spanning all of the years, came home to celebrate
with the team that had finally "done it!"

Mayor Al Teglia, Jefferson grad 1950, presented a proclamation from the City of Daly City to team captains, Richard Rodgers and Charlie Banfield.

Al and Principal Liz Hall signed our first event book.

Everyone of those guests was special, but one did cause a bit of a stir with the team. When John Madden showed up to, "sit with the guys," razz the OLD COACHES, and sign every team member’s jacket patch,
THAT WAS SPECIAL!

John mainly picked on Coach Orlich.

John signed many autographs.

And the Championship patches of every member
of the team!

The Jefferson Alumni Boosters has reached its 25 year!  Little did I know that I would still be Jeff Chief after all of these years.
My website is dedicated to all the former students and teachers who remember their Jefferson days and who will enjoy wandering through this tribute
to our alma mater.
